There are retailers selling Office 2024 Professional Plus for about £20. Is there any reason why I should not buy this version of Office 2024 for home use when it is so much cheaper than Office 2024 Home?

Download and activation depends as it is not for consumer and there is no specific time on when you will encounter an issue like someone maybe able to use it now but tomorrow is a different scenario.
Hello, good day and thanks for your question. Office 2024 Professional Plus is intended for organizations that uses bulk or volume licensing and this is the reason why the price is low as the ones who will purchase it will encounter activation issues sooner or later as it is not for consumer use.
Although it is intended for organizations, if I (an individual home user) buy one of these £20 licences will I still be able to download and activate Office 2024 Professional Plus? You say sooner or later I will encounter activation issues. Can you be more specific?
As an altenative to Office 2024 Professional Plus, I currently have Office 2013 Professional Plus which I purchased through an employer discount scheme. I am no longer with that employer. Will I be able to transfer it to my new laptop using the same old Product Key?
Unfortunately, since you are no longer with that employer, you have lost the right to install and activate Office 2013. See the FAQ at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/workplace-discount-program/order-history . The screen shot below is from the FAQ.
