I can't get updates on my laptop currently using windows 10 and as a result can't transition to windows 11. I can't open my word documents.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To update your BIOS, you’ll need to visit your laptop manufacturer’s official support website (for example, Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, etc.), then enter your laptop’s model number. From there, look for the latest BIOS update under the Drivers & Downloads section.

Once downloaded, follow the on-screen instructions carefully, or if your manufacturer provides an update tool (like Dell Command Update or HP Support Assistant), you can use that to handle the BIOS update automatically.

After updating the BIOS, check for Windows Updates again and see if your system becomes eligible for Windows 11. If you’re still unable to open your Word documents afterward, let me know what happens when you try to open them (for example, any error message you see). That will help narrow down what’s causing it.
