How do I add running headers to a Word for Mac doc?
I need the chapter on one page and the book title on the other page.

Book formatting often uses both Different first page and Different odd and even header/footer formatting. To access those options, choose Format>Document from the macOS menu bar and choose the Layout tab of the dialog.

To create page with different formatting at the beginning and end, you'll have to insert Section Breaks, then unlink the headers and footer from the adjacent section. Here is Microsoft's help page on how to do that: Configure headers and footers for different sections of a document

Fine heading formatting, like different first page and different even and odd, can only be done in one of the desktop versions of Word, not the online or mobile versions. Does your version show the mailings tab? If it does, it is the desktop version. If so, the links you've already received should have assisted you.

Hi, thanks for your question. Which version of Word for Mac are you using?

To add running headers, open your document, go to Insert, then Header, and choose Edit Header. In the Header & Footer tab, select Different Odd & Even Pages. Type your book title on the odd pages and your chapter title on the even pages. Double-click outside the header to finish. This setup makes your headers alternate between the two.
