Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi KC,
Hi K C,
Thanks for sharing the details and screenshot! In the New Outlook for Windows, column resizing is currently limited compared to Classic Outlook. At the moment, you can only adjust the width between From and Subject, while the Received column is fixed to keep alignment with the sorting and filter controls.
Switch to Classic Outlook
- Go to Settings (gear icon) → Switch to Classic Outlook.
- This version allows full column resizing.
Optimize the layout in New Outlook
- Reduce the Reading Pane width or adjust Zoom to see more of the Subject line.
- Alternatively, you can hide the Received column and sort by date using View Settings → Sort → Date.
Check for Updates
- Microsoft is gradually adding more customization options to New Outlook, so make sure you’re on the latest version.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to shrink the Subject column beyond the current limit in New Outlook yet. If full control over column widths is important for your workflow, switching back to Classic Outlook is the best option for now.
