This question was previously asked and closed due to standard Microsoft support person thinking this is slack. Close ticket because i responded and of course i responded with an incorrect answer but i responded so it must be right. Stop that and answer because this is annoying and you still cannot stop this annoyance. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/2408555/how-to-stop-edge-from-opening-a-new-tab-every-time

I've had this problem when clicking on a search result in the Edge browser. When I click on a search result, I don't want a new tab to open; I just want to go to that page in that same tab.

To remedy this, go to bing.com. Open the hamburger menu (upper-right corner) and select SafeSearch. the first category of settings should be Search, and in the Results subsection, uncheck the boxes "Open links from search results in a new tab or window" and "Open links from news results in a new tab or window." Then click save at the bottom. That did it for me! Now when I click on a search results, I go to that website in the same tab.
