Hi, I am very much fed up with all the Windows updates, which come ever faster, now once every few days and cause a lot of havoc. Especially these two latest ones really messed up my system and Microsoft always tells me to take my laptop to a shop, pay for them to have a look at it... but my laptop had no problems before the updates? A while ago the big problem was that for a couple of months I had to use a wired mouse. Microsoft knew that their updates had affected a lot of wired mice, including the two brands I use, but it took quite a while for them to fix the problem! Good now, but now I have even a lot more problems: Constantly get two spaces between words, when I select junk e-mails on Outlook in order to get rid of them (no idea why there are so often many times a day), they either all open or I am told that opening them all (sometimes over 30), would take too long, for some reason it also seems to have affected YouTube and the newspaper I read every morning, where I can't comment anymore and much more.

I would welcome your views on all these updates, do you find them necessary, do they mess up your system too, and why do we need ever more? One would think that when a huge company like Microsoft puts software out there it would be fully tested, and maybe there would be an update a year, but soon it will be one da day! Fed up!!!!!

I am sick and tired of fixing my PC everytime you roll out an update. It never fails with every update I have to take hours, of which I am not being paid, to reset all of my default settings and fix all the new problems that your updates create.

These updates cause major problems with all of my work related software and cause me to spend hours with tech support to resolve.

Besides the headaches and frustration I'm not seeing any improvements to performance or security.

Time is money and Microsoft updates are causing me to spend time fixing things that were not broken prior to the update.

So, far this year I have spent over 100 hours fixing these problems.

$35 dollars an hour times 100 hours is $3,500 Microsoft owes me for this year so far.

Thanks for your reply, King Stormrider... you put it into words much better than I ever could have! This destroys lives.... if you know how many times I was connecting with them, sometimes until the middle of the night, because of problems I didn't cause, completely exhausted (I am nearly 70 years old), sometimes ill... And this does not only happen with Microsoft, Samsung, my mobile phone brand, is also a nightmare and now, whether you want to update or not, they just restart your phone and do it anyway. I feel like they are my bosses, I have no say, I fork out huge amounts of money for these devices, but in fact, I am a nobody, with no rights. But that is the society we live in............ Great you directing your message to them, not that they will read it, as they don't care, but.... it just made your statement that much stronger!

I don't know what the solution is, I really don't! I have demanded compensation from Microsoft in the past and also from Samsung, never got anywhere. Sometimes they say that they will look into it, but then come back and say that I have no claim. If they had to pay us, they would stop this madness! My explanation for the constant updates is that they hire people without the needed expertise, who then try to do as if they are delivering value for money, others may be trying to justify their jobs, by making changes that mess up our lives but make no sense at all! So fed up.....

Hi Richard, many thanks for your reply! I uninstalled the two culprits, so I don't have the numbers but one was done last night and the other one a few days ago (they roll them out very often now, no idea why!). This makes me waste so much time and causes so much grievances... it should not be allowed. Any good software should not have these many updates, this is ridiculous. Sometimes I think that people just want to justify their jobs, that's all, and just change things around for the sake of it. Samsung is a nightmare too, and it is great that there is now huge backlash. Maybe one day they will learn? Microsoft's technical service is a nightmare too. First you are always connected to someone from another department, who goes on and on and on, until they say that it is nothing to do with them! I now say up front that if that is not their department, they should tell me, but they don't. Maybe they just want to earn a bit more, which I understand, but it is maddening! Take care...

I knew I shouldn't have clicked on that newest update. I just knew it. The moment I did it tanked my insanely expensive and OP PC. Now my computer runs like dog doo doo.

OMG, Irving, so many people having problems, it is not fair! I said to Microsoft that I wanted compensation, because this has been going on for far too long and has made me waste huge amounts of time, they first said OK, they would look into it, then told me they wouldn't pay anything, but if they had to, they wouldn't do this ever again. They have no sense of responsibility and then Bill Gates playing the Saint? This all makes me so angry, because they see us as expendable and have no respect for those who provide them with a living! I have a lot less updates now, luckily! Thanks for your thoughts..............

Can you quote your system details. Manufacturer make and model.

Make sure the setting for Get updates as soon as they are available is Off. Don't install optional updates.

As previously suggested Pause updates.

If you have a branded system (not custom build) then go to the manufacturers website to check for driver and bios update and only install drivers from their site. You should not get update every few days.

Unless there is a specific reason (security problem) updates are once per month.

Check Update history to see if updates are failing.

You can try the recovery option in settings. Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using windows update, select Reinstall now. Only do this when you have some time available as it can take a while.

If you don't accept the updates you can have huge problems, therefore I turned them on again! It is all very complicated, but it does destroy lives! And at times there is one every few days. Creates a huge amount of stress.

There is something strange if you see updates every few days.

Did you look at Update history. Can you provide a screenshot of that screen.

Pausing updates is only temporary so you can do them when it suits you. Also make sure you have Activate hours set to times that suit your using the device.

There are times when they come fast and furious. So unsettling... I have mostly uninstalled them all, but I will have a look at what is there and it they happen again I can send you a screenshot. Doing the updates when they suit me doesn't change the problems they cause. Yes, they do them in the middle of the night, that is not the problem. I posted this post in October, when I was at the height of desperation, Windows 11 had to be re-installed with their help, I can't them access my computer, too afraid of doing that, it was chaotic. Sometimes thinking that it would be a quick fix I would contact them in the evening and we would still be busy in the middle of the night. Then there was the fear of what was going to happen when they wanted to install another update. As someone said here must better than I ever could, the stress is horrendous. For me, for now things seem to be quieter, but for how long? I don't even dare to think things might go wrong again. The despair among Samsung mobile users is palpable too. But Samsung ended up apologizing and conceding that it was their fault! Thanks for your help and if you don't mind, if it all starts all over again, I will send you a screenshot.

Okay that's fine. When you can send screenshots showing any problem updates.

Be sure you have he latest updates available from Samsung, if yours is a Samsung device.

Thanks. Samsung is my mobile phone, but I only use Microsoft on my laptop, sorry, if I forgot to explain that. I was just trying to say that the problems with very frequent updates which mess up devices are everywhere, not only Microsoft.

How this day and age they don't have more secure devices and need to be constantly updating is beyond me. An update maybe a couple of times a year I could live with, if they make sure that nothing will be messed up and they only update what really needs updating, because sometimes the changes seem like a joke. It seems that the more technology evolves, the worse everything gets! As I write this, I a small window opened, announcing an update for some software I must have installed a long time ago, and forgot about. Updating now seems to be a way of life.

On a different subject, but just to show the nightmares of modern technology... this morning on TV, they were debating the many problems caused to people who use the William Hill app, who think they have won a lot of money, can only cash on part of it, spend it, and then, when they try to get the remainder of the money owed to them, are told that there was a glitch and they have to pay it all back. Not to speak about scams, etc. Sorry for the rant... just so fed up...

Hi Miosotis, I understand how disruptive these updates can be especially when they introduce more problems than they fix.

You might consider pausing automatic updates and manually installing only stable ones. Also, using the Feedback Hub to report these bugs can help Microsoft prioritize fixes. Rolling back the latest updates might restore normal behavior.

Here’s a step to roll back a recent windows update, simply open Settings → Go to Update & Security then Click Windows Update → then View update history then Select Uninstall updates after that Find the most recent update (look for KB numbers mentioned in your update history) then Right-click and choose Uninstall then Restart your PC.

Also to isolate the issue, can you recall the exact KB number or date of the update that triggered these recent problems?
