I am trying to capture VHS tapes through a cature device using the Windows 11 Camera app. The video works but I have no sound. I think I have the settings correct in System Sounds. Specifically, the input microphone seems to be working i.e. the bar is showing sound coming in, but I cannot get it to output to the speakers. The speakers are working normally for other app, Spotify for instance. I have noticed that no sound bar shows in the Sound mixer although at one point it did show but was greyed out.

    Hi,

What is the model of the capture device?

And check the input/output; if possible, use an application focused on this, like OBS, where you record and choose the audio input.

    Thanks

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with audio capture while using the Windows 11 Camera app to capture VHS tapes. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can consider:

    1. Check Audio Capture Settings: Ensure that the audio input settings in the Camera app are configured correctly. You may need to select the correct audio source that corresponds to your capture device.
    2. Device Access: Make sure that the Camera app has permission to access the microphone. You can check this in the Windows Settings under Privacy & Security -> Microphone.
    3. Sound Mixer: If the sound bar is greyed out in the Sound mixer, it could indicate that the application is not properly recognizing the audio input. Try restarting the Camera app or your computer to refresh the audio devices.
    4. Audio Capture Filter: Since you are using a capture device, ensure that the device drivers are up to date. The Audio Capture Filter in DirectShow can be used to manage audio inputs, but since DirectShow is a legacy feature, consider using newer APIs if possible.
    5. Testing with Other Applications: If the microphone input is showing activity, but you're not getting sound in the Camera app, try testing the audio input with another application to confirm that it is working correctly.
    6. Check System Sounds: Verify that the system sounds are not muted and that the correct playback device is selected in the Sound settings.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consult the documentation for your specific capture device or consider using a different application for capturing audio and video from VHS tapes.
