Inquiry About Project Online Expiration and Transition to Project Server Subscription

We are currently using Project Online within an Enterprise Organization. As the Project Online subscription is set to expire in 2026, I would like to understand if upgrading to the Project Server subscription will allow me to continue accessing and using all our existing projects seamlessly, without the need for manual transfer?

Also I wanted to ask if the Project Server subscription is fully compatible with Project Online, or if it is a completely different platform requiring separate management of projects?

    Hina --

    Excellent questions. The answers are:

    1. Your Project Online app admin will need to configure the Project Server SE application to match the configuration of the Project Online application, including configuring items such as enterprise custom fields, enterprise calendars, enterprise views, and the Enterprise Resource Pool. Then someone from your organization will need to manually migrate every project from the Project Online instance to the Project Server SE instance. I will be doing this exact thing with one of my Project Online clients.
    2. Project Server SE is a completely different application that will look and work exactly like Project Online. The big differences between the two are that Project Server SE will allow your app admin to back up and restore individual projects (if needed) and the sources for data in Power BI reports (Project Server SE will offer two additional data sources).

    Hope this helps.
