Hi Robin,
Thanks for laying everything out so clearly. It sounds like someone may have created an Xbox profile using your Microsoft 365 business email, which is understandably frustrating.
Just to clarify, once an Xbox profile is tied to a Microsoft account, it can't be removed separately. The gamertag and related Xbox data are automatically generated the first time the account interacts with any Xbox service , even something as simple as signing into the Xbox app or redeeming a Microsoft Rewards point.
That said, you don’t need to shut down your Microsoft account to deal with this. You can take steps to lock down the Xbox side of things. Start by canceling any Xbox subscriptions that might be active, and remove any payment methods linked to the account. Then, head over to the Xbox privacy settings and restrict everything , hide your online status, block communications, and limit visibility so the profile is essentially dormant.
If you’re not using Xbox services at all, it’s best to avoid signing into anything Xbox-related with that account going forward.
Since this seems to be a case of unauthorized use, I’d recommend forwarding the email you received to Microsoft’s phishing team at reportphishing@microsoft.com. Also, check your recent sign-in activity at account.microsoft.com/security to see if there were any suspicious logins. If anything looks off, it’s worth contacting Microsoft Support directly and explaining that your business account was used to create an Xbox profile without your consent.
It’s great that you’ve already changed your password and enabled two-factor authentication , those are key steps. You might also want to review any connected apps or services and set up alerts for unusual activity if you’re managing the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Hope this helps clear things up. Let me know how it goes or if you need help reaching out to support.
Best,
Edward
