I am using a Dell DVD Multimedia Recorder model GP61NB60. When I put a disc in the device turns on, it spins for a minute, and then stops without pulling up file explorer or anything. Going into file explorer shows nothing.

There are several potential reasons why your external DVD drive is not reading the disc. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. Check the Disc: Ensure that the disc is clean and free from scratches. If the disc is damaged, it may not be readable.
    2. Reinsert the Disc: Make sure the disc is inserted correctly. Sometimes, discs can be inserted upside down, which would prevent the drive from reading it.
    3. Drive Door: Verify that the drive door is properly closed. If the door is open or not closed correctly, the drive may not function as expected.
    4. Drive Compatibility: Ensure that the disc you are trying to read is compatible with your external DVD drive. Some drives may not support certain types of discs (e.g., DVD-RW, CD-R).
    5. Disk Formatting: If the disc is not formatted correctly, it may not be recognized. If you are willing to lose the data on the disc, you could try reformatting it.
    6. Check for Errors: If you are still having issues, there might be a problem with the drive itself. You can check for any error messages in the Device Manager or try using the drive on a different computer to see if it works there.
    7. Network Issues: If the drive is connected over a network, ensure that your network is functioning properly.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be necessary to consult the manufacturer's support or consider replacing the drive.
