Try pressing esc + fn
Then, try out your brightness adjustment buttons again.
This just worked for me.
How to turn off caret browsing permanently when pop up is no longer showing? F7 does not work at all.

I am trying to turn off caret browsing (Which i must have ACCIDENTALLY enabled) and I am following the instrcutions to press F7 but to no avail. I really need the keyboard for brightness adjustment, volume adjustment, and print screening - definitely NOT for navigation, so I would appreciate some clear instructions on removing this. Thank you

Thanks for your post. From your description, I understand the inconvenience of getting pop-ups while browsing Microsoft Edge, we will help you solve this problem. Please try the following methods to disable the I suggest that you disable the caret browsing option from the Microsoft Edge browser and MMC consoles.
Method 1:
- Open Microsoft Edge, click More Action in the upper right corner.
- Click Settings, click View an ADVANCED setting under Advanced Settings.
- Enable / disable Always use collation navigation.
- Close the browser, try opening it again and see if the problem persists.
Method 2:
- Press windows key + r
- Type inetcpl.cpl
- Go to advanced tab
- Clear the check box for Enable caret browsing for new windows and tabs.
Method 3:
- Open group policy on your Windows by pressing windows key and type: group policy.
- Click edit group policy.
- Look to User Configuration > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > Advanced Page.
- Turn on Caret Browsing - Disabled.

For Method 1- I cannot find any 'advanced settings' under my microsoft edge.
Method 2- everything worked except step 4; there is no box for 'Enable caret browsing for new windows and tabs.'
Method 3- there is nothing that comes up on my system when I type in 'Group Policy'

Can I know if the device has managed by your organization/company? If you canot see the policies mentioned above, it might be because the device is managed by the organization and such policies are disabled by administrator. Usually you can see Your browser is managed by your organization when you open Edge setting. Kindly contact the IT administrator for the caret browsing.
