I have disabled the Hyper-V service, but its adapter called vEthernet (default switch) cannot be deleted from the Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections section.

I have tested the following methods :

  1. The easiest way: Right-click on this adapter and click Remove, which is not disabled at all
  2. Trying to delete it from the Device Manager section (which is not in this section at all)
  3. Using PowerShell and the registry according to the link below, which is not working for me

Thanks for your message. Are you running the latest version of Windows and have you fully uninstalled Hyper-V or only disabled it?

The vEthernet (Default Switch) is created and managed by Hyper-V, so disabling it alone does not remove the adapter. Microsoft supports removing it only by fully uninstalling Hyper-V: go to Control Panel> Programs> Turn Windows features on or off, uncheck Hyper-V, and restart your PC. After that, the vEthernet adapter should disappear automatically. Manual deletion from Network Connections, Device Manager, or the registry is not supported.

Thanks for sharing the screenshot! It looks like the “Hyper-V Virtual Switch Extension Adapter” is still active because Hyper-V or its components are still installed.

The supported way to remove it is to fully uninstall Hyper-V from Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off, making sure all sub-items under Hyper-V are unchecked, along with Windows Hypervisor Platform and Virtual Machine Platform if present, then restart your PC. Microsoft does not support manually deleting the adapter through Device Manager or registry edits. If it still shows up after this, it usually means leftover Hyper-V components or services are running.

Thanks for the update. Before anything else, can you confirm if you restarted your PC after disabling all three features?

When Hyper-V, Windows Hypervisor Platform, and WSL are all turned off, the vEthernet adapter usually stays only if Hyper-V was previously enabled and the system has not fully removed its components. Microsoft supports one path here. Restart the PC after turning off those features. If the adapter still shows up, go back to Windows Features and make sure Hyper-V is fully unchecked, then restart again. The system should remove the vEthernet adapter automatically because Microsoft does not support deleting that adapter manually.
