Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hello Rusty,
The reason those emails remain is that they’re stored on the server, so deleting locally doesn’t fully clear them. Open Outlook and go to File > Tools > Mailbox Cleanup, which lets you search for old emails by date or size and delete them in bulk. You can also sort your inbox by date and select older emails to delete in large batches, then empty the Deleted Items folder to permanently remove them.
If you want to keep old emails but remove them from your active mailbox, use File > Archive to move them into an archive file (.pst). Another quick method is to use the search bar with filters like received:<2023-01-01 to find and delete emails older than a certain date. Finally, if your account is connected to Exchange, Microsoft 365, or IMAP, log in to your webmail and repeat these steps because the server holds the actual data.
