How to fix printer connection after recent Windows 11 24H2 Update

After the recent Windows 11 24H2 Update my HP All-In-One printer is no longer connected. There is no option to reconnect or to troubleshoot available. The only option offered is to remove the printer. How do I resolve this issue so that I am able to connect and use my printer?

I have recently changed my Internet provider and now my printer will not connect. On my laptop it shows the printer but says Driver not available...I am at a loss, I have tried turning everything off and turning off again, but no joy. I would be grateful for assistance, I am at my wits end with it!!

This has also happened to my Brother MFC7860DW, after the 24H2 the printer shows "offline" no matter what I do. I just installed 24H2 last week...had to be that as nothing else has changed on our home network. No other laptops can use the unit either.

The MFC connects to our WIFI but once an updated PC tries to connect it goes OFFLINE with error message in Queue.

I have a Canon MX920 Pixma. worked the last time I logged in. Now it only recognizes the scanner, not the printer. I guess I have to buy a new printer

Same problem with an Epson 4850. THIS APPEARS TO HAPPEN EVERY TIME MICROSOFT COMES OUT WITH AN UPDATE. It's some sort of weird network issue, as I can no longer ping the printer, even though I can ping everything else on the subnet. Other computers on the subnet can still ping the printer. Microsoft, you need to start doing better QA and figure out why updates are breaking connectivity to printers. It also seems intermittent and a few days after the update sometimes I will be able to printer/ping the printer (for no apparent reason), but then my computer (and ONLY my computer) will lose connectivity again. Oh that's right, Microsoft fired all their QA folks and now relies on us users to do their QA. Well, here's a problem reported by multiple users -- when are you going to fix it?

But then they wouldn't be able to waste everyone's time telling them to disconnect everything and reboot your computer. "Reboot the computer" is Microshaft speak for "we have no idea". I was in Linux support for 25 years and never once told a client to do that because I had no idea what, exactly, was wrong. I'm also an MCSE and am continually amazed by the behavior of Windoze. I wrote Paint 1.0 and had a to-do list for 1.1, for Windoze in general, not just Paint, and I still see it do things in 2026 that were on that list. We are their beta testers.

After the Windows 11 24H2 update, printer issues like yours are fairly common. Here’s how to fix it:

Remove and re-add the printer

Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.

Remove the printer, then click Add device to reconnect it.

Update printer drivers

Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your model.

Install them and restart your PC.

Run the Windows troubleshooter

Go to Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters → Printer and run it.

Check services

Press Win + R, type services.msc, and ensure Print Spooler is running. Restart it if needed.

This usually resolves post-update printer connection problems.

I have the same issue with my HP Envy 5642 printer. Shows offline. I've tried a million different things to fix. Nothing works. UGH

I just discovered that the the GX2020 printer isn't an option when when I want to print a WORD document. I am in the middle of trying to finish a project, but suddenly I can't print.

The answers supplied are just guesswork of try this and try that. f

After Microsoft's 24H2 update to Windows 11, my Brother printer would not connect to the PC via WiFi or USB. After hours of trying to fix the issue, I called Brother support. They referred me to another company for Network Security and they downloaded network security software that fixed the connection issue. It cost me $229 to fix this issue. That's almost double what I paid for my printer! Thanks Microsoft!

Hello,

Here are some basic troubleshooting steps you can take to try and get the printer running again.

First remove the printer from the scanners and printers, unplug it entirely. Then restart your computer, after restarting reinstall the printer drivers and re-add it again, after a shutdown and a refresh your printer should be working again.
