So Minecraft Bedrock just got an update but its a bug update and its been going around the internet that you have to reinstall or "restore" your minecraft for the new update and it actually ended up deleting all of my minecraft worlds. Can Mojang somhow fix this. For reference video: https://youtube.com/shorts/i_cuNc1f2SM?si=71c4rpTt7c2BpGiW

It looks like this update did two things with the minecraftWorlds save location. It was moved to a location under AppData\Roaming rather than AppData\Local, where it was before.

Specifically, the new save location is here:

    C:\Users[WindowsUser]\AppData\Roaming\Minecraft Bedrock\Users[number]\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds

The worlds are now also saved to a specific user account, meaning that if you have multiple Minecraft accounts (or Xbox accounts) and switch between them, the worlds are no longer visible on all accounts like they used to be.

In my case, it saved all my worlds under the first account I logged into the game with after the update.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Daver,

Thank you for getting back to me for the update, since your minecraftWorlds folder only contains BootstrapStorage and no actual world data, it means the worlds were likely wiped during the reinstall/reset process. At this point the next step is data recovery because Mojang cannot restore deleted local files automatically.

To address this issue the first thing to do is stop writing any new data to the drive because every new file can overwrite the deleted Minecraft worlds and make recovery impossible.

Next consider using file recovery software such as Recuva, EaseUS Data Recovery or Wondershare Recoverit. These tools can scan for deleted files make sure to install the recovery tool on a different drive not the one where Minecraft is installed and then scan the path:

    C:\Users<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\

Look for folders with random names as those usually represent your world data.

It’s also worth checking OneDrive or any other cloud backup service you might have been using. Review version history and confirm that you are signed in with the same Xbox or Microsoft account since worlds sometimes sync to the cloud.

Another option is to restore previous versions of the folder. Right-click the com.mojang folder, select Properties and check the Previous Versions tab. If File History or System Restore was enabled you may be able to roll back to an earlier state.

For future prevention regularly export your worlds from Minecraft through Settings select Profile select Manage Worlds select Export. Additionally back up the minecraftWorlds folder to OneDrive or an external drive before installing updates.

    Best regards,

    Marcelo

    Hello Danver,

Thank you for reaching out about this issue I understand how upsetting it is to lose your Minecraft worlds especially after investing so much time and creativity into them. Many players have reported similar problems after the recent Bedrock update and it’s definitely frustrating.

The main reason this happens is that reinstalling or resetting Minecraft often removes local save files unless they were backed up or synced to the cloud. Unfortunately Mojang cannot automatically restore deleted worlds because they are stored locally on your device. However there are steps you can try to recover them:

First check if your worlds are still in the save folder. On Windows they are usually located at

    C:\Users<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds.

If the folder exists you can restore previous versions by right-clicking it, selecting Properties and checking the Previous Versions tab. If you had File History or System Restore enabled you might be able to roll back to an earlier state. Also sign in with the same Microsoft or Xbox account to see if cloud sync brings your worlds back.

If these options don’t work recovery software like EaseUS or Wondershare can sometimes help but install them on a different drive to avoid overwriting data. For the future I recommend regularly backing up your worlds by copying the minecraftWorlds folder to OneDrive or using the Export World feature in Minecraft.

Have you checked whether your worlds were synced to the cloud or if previous versions are available on your PC?

I hope this answer is helpful if you have further questions feel free to reply back

    Regards,

    Marcelo
