How to delete songs from Windows Media Player 11

I installed Windows Media Player 11. It is not as easy to use as Windows Media Player 10. I want to delete songs but when I follow the instructions and right click on a song, no window pops up that has the word remove or delete! Some of the songs are duplicates and I just want them out of Media Player. I really don't want to go thru hundreds of songs in my music library to delete. Also, can I uninstall 11 and get Media Player 10 back? I do not care for the hassle of 11. Thank you very much!

Confusing, yes, but still fun sometimes, haha! Since you can open it and access your media, everything is working like it should. You might want to pin it to the Start Menu or Taskbar so it’s easier to find next time.

Glad it all worked out in the end — cheers!

Hello, I’m Quinn, and I’m here to help.

I’ve run into this issue myself, and no matter how I troubleshoot it, the “Delete” or “Remove” option doesn’t always appear. Since your concern is about duplicate songs, I recommend installing a Duplicate Cleaner from the Microsoft Store. You can choose whichever one suits you best, and it should save you from having to remove duplicates manually.

As for your other question: Windows Media Player 10 isn’t supported on Windows 11. Instead, you can use Windows Media Player Legacy (version 12), which is already installed on your system as an optional feature. It offers a similar experience, and the Delete option does appear there.

    Hi!

You're welcome! Just another solution I want to add, if the previous one didn't work:

    1. Close Media Player.
    2. Go to: C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player
    3. Delete the files named CurrentDatabase_***.wmdb.
    4. Restart Media Player — it will rebuild the library from scratch, scanning your music folders.

This often fixes duplicates or entries that won't delete, but results may vary depending on your library. Feel free to let me know if you need more help!
