How to redownload the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver?

My laptop recently wouldn't charge past 5%, so, after research on Dell Forums I found that I should uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver, and it would reinstall itself after restart.

It has not. I have tried hard restarting the laptop (Dell Inspiron 16 5625), and that didnt work.

Device manager on scan for hardware changes doesn't find it.

I can only use my laptop when connected to power now as I cannot see the battery percentage, and am worried it won't charge past 5% as it used to

To redownload the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery driver, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager" from the menu.
    2. Locate the Battery Driver: Expand the "Batteries" section. You should see the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" listed there.
    3. Uninstall the Driver: Right-click on the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" and select "Uninstall device". Confirm any prompts that appear.
    4. Scan for Hardware Changes: After uninstalling, click on the "Action" menu at the top of Device Manager and select "Scan for hardware changes". This should prompt Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
    5. Restart Your Laptop: If the driver does not reinstall, restart your laptop. Windows should detect the missing driver and reinstall it during the boot process.
    6. Check for Updates: If the driver still does not appear, check for Windows updates as there may be updates available that include the necessary drivers.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to check the laptop's BIOS settings or consult Dell support for further assistance, as there could be a hardware issue with the battery itself.

Windows should by default re-install that driver automatically after a restart, if that has not happened, there may be a problem with your battery.

Start your laptop, then on the Dell logo screen, repeatedly press the F12 key

From the resulting list, start the Diagnostics test, does that test find any problem with the battery or the power system on your laptop?
