How do I get rid of personal vault?

How do I remove/disable/etc personal vault.

Seems like it always wants to tell me something, I do not want to use it.

Hi,

Unfortunately, Microsoft removed the “Disable” button for Personal Vault in recent updates, so the old instructions don’t work anymore. I checked as well and only see the “Manage” option now. From what I’ve found, the only real way to turn it off is by contacting Microsoft Support directly, either through your Microsoft 365 admin center or by calling their support line. If the vault is empty and not causing any issues, you could just ignore it, it won’t interfere with your shared folders or normal OneDrive use. Personal Vault was designed for storing extra-sensitive files, but if you don’t need that extra security layer, I agree it can feel like unnecessary clutter. Hope this clears things up!

Thanks. I kept thinking I was not understanding! At least I don't feel like an idiot now! I sent a message to Microsoft. I don't know if I did so in a way that someone will actually see it!

Well, it's hard to ignore personal vault.

It locks itself automatically after 20 minutes. This results in ...

The warning doesn't go away until I click on that Unlock button.

That gets us to the following. Will it never end? One of these messages will always clutter up the OneDrive status display.

Hi Robert, thank you for the update, the reason it keeps popping up is that Personal Vault automatically locks after 20 minutes of inactivity, and if there’s even one file inside, OneDrive can’t finish syncing until you unlock it. That’s why you’re seeing the “Your Personal Vault isn’t up to date” message over and over.

Try to empty the Personal Vault completely move any files out into regular OneDrive folders. Once it’s empty, those sync prompts should disappear.

The Personal Vault is completely empty and has been for some time. There is nothing to move out. Note that I have deleted it more than once and it pops back into existence uninvited.

Maybe there is a more basic way to reset it.

Hi Robert have you already tried resetting your OneDrive? Click WinKey+ R and paste this %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset if that doesn't work try these C:\Program Files\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset & C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset This will reset all OneDrive settings and force a full sync, which sometimes clears persistent issues like this. It won’t delete your files, but you’ll need to reconfigure any selective sync settings afterward.

If that doesn’t work, the only guaranteed way to remove Personal Vault is to contact Microsoft Support they can confirm if it can be disabled on your account. Here’s the official guide for resetting OneDrive Reset OneDrive - Microsoft Support.

I really find it annoying, not to be able to get rid of that vault once and forever if I want to, [and keeping a chance to reinstall it in case I will need it later, which I really think will never happen since I hate having spent so many hours trying to get rid of it.

It keeps timing out and then OneDrive won't sync. How do I delete it completely.

This is unbelievably frustrating and time wasting.

When I navigate to personal vault, it simply opens the folder. I see nothing that allows me to disable personal vault in any way.
