Outlook Classic running on Windows 11 no longer opens, how do I fix it?

I have always used Outlook Classic because it gives me more ways to manage my email. When I moved to my new Windows 11 computer, after I installed my Office 365 subscription, I added Outlook Classic and set it up instead of Outlook New. All worked well for four or five weeks.

They I started noticing problems with trying to move emails into separate topic folders. They wouldn't move. Also, from time to time I would try to copy and paste from one email to another, but it wouldn't paste. Generally, restarting the computer cleared the problem and it worked fine. But the errors seemed to happen more and more often.

Today, I had all of the errors happen in succession while working on one project. So I restarted Outlook Classic. When I clicked to go back into Outlook, the opening Outlook screen popped up and immediately switched to an error message that said:

Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists.

I tried finding a solution online, but with no luck. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Finally solved the problem. Went online in my Microsoft account and reached out for Outlook tech support. In an online session the rep took control of my computer and determined my profile was corrupt. After several attempts going at it from different ways, he was able to create a new profile and solve the problem. Outlook Classic is back running on my Windows 11 machine.

    Hi Jim,

That looks like a corrupted Outlook profile or local data file. Try to create a fresh Outlook profile and let it build a new mailbox cache.

Close Outlook completely. If Outlook still shows in Task Manager, end it. Now open the old Control Panel in Windows 11. Set View by to Small icons, then open Mail and click Show Profiles.

Click Add, name it something like Jim, then sign in with your Microsoft 365 account and finish the setup.

Back in the Mail window, under When starting Microsoft Outlook use this profile, choose Always use this profile, select your new profile, then click Apply and OK.

Start Outlook. It will create a new OST and resync your mailbox. Give it a few minutes to finish the initial sync, then test moving mail between folders and copy or paste between messages.

Important note: if you have any POP accounts or personal PST files. Do not remove the old profile until the new one is working. If you need old local mail, add the PST in the new profile using File > Open and Export > Open Outlook Data File, or export from the old profile first.

Tell me how it goes. If Outlook still fails to launch after using a new profile, I will walk you through the next step.

Most már a végére értem a sok gyötrelemnek a nyomtatóm beütemezésére.

Check if you have the 26200.#### (I think it's 2676, but I can be wrong) update, install it, and restart your computer. Check again.

To resolve the issue with Outlook Classic not opening on your Windows 11 computer, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Office 365 subscription is up to date. Sometimes, missing updates can cause issues with Outlook.
    2. Repair Office: You can repair your Microsoft 365 programs. To do this, go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select your Microsoft Office installation, and then click on "Change". Choose the repair option and follow the prompts.
    3. Create a New Outlook Profile: Sometimes, the Outlook profile can become corrupted. You can create a new profile by going to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles. Click "Add" to create a new profile and set it up with your email account.
    4. Run the Classic Outlook Advanced Diagnostics Troubleshooter: This tool can help identify and fix issues with Outlook. Make sure you are using the same Windows device that classic Outlook is installed on, and that it is running Windows 10 or later. Follow the instructions in the Get Help app to run the troubleshooter.
    5. Check for Conflicting Programs: Ensure that no other programs are conflicting with Outlook. This could include outdated antivirus software or other applications that may interfere with Outlook's functionality.
    6. Check Server Availability: Since the error message mentions that the server is not available, verify your network connection and ensure that your email server is operational.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to contact your administrator or seek further assistance from Microsoft support.
