When I click on the Start button and then on my account on the bottom left of the Start Menu it shows my personal account as normal with photo. It also lists my Microsoft 365 Family subscription and cloud storage status - all good. But on the line at the top of my account it lists one of my work accounts (I have 2 for different orgs) and the Sign out button. My question is why is the work organisation listed and what impact it has. I noticed for the first time that on downloading a game I own from Microsoft Store I get a 'Do you own this game or app? pop up when I try to run it which stops me from running the game. Never had this problem before but it's been at least 6 months since I downloaded and ran this game. Any help appreciated.

Can you go to your Windows Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School (note, it is the briefcase icon, not the envelope icon). Then see if the organization email address is still listed? If so, click on it and then disconnect it.

Restart the computer. That should get rid of the org account.

I will explain how this happened. You probably have used an org account to log into apps like Teams, or Msft 365 apps. When you signed in then, it would ask if you want to allow org to access settings, and you should have clicked on "sign into this app only" instead of allowing it. When you allow it, what it means is you also enrolled your device into intune device management in your org. Your IT can push group policies to regulate your device, doesn't mean they can see your data, but they can enforce stricter security rules, such as requiring stronger PIN, setting PIN expiration, making sure security update is not stalled, etc.

When you see both your personal and work accounts listed, it typically indicates that your device is configured to support multiple account types. This can happen if you've signed in to your work account on the same device where your personal account is active. The presence of your work account does not usually impact your personal account's functionality; however, it can lead to confusion, especially when accessing services like the Microsoft Store.

The issue you are experiencing with the Microsoft Store, where you receive a "Do you own this game or app?" pop-up, could be related to the account that is currently active when you attempt to download or run the game. If the game is associated with your personal account but you are signed in with your work account, the system may not recognize your ownership of the game, leading to this prompt.

To resolve this, you can try the following steps:

  1. Ensure you are signed in with the correct account that owns the game when accessing the Microsoft Store.
  2. If necessary, sign out of your work account and sign back in with your personal account to access your game library correctly.
  3. Check your Microsoft Store settings to ensure that the correct account is being used for purchases and downloads.

If the problem persists, you may want to contact Microsoft support for further assistance regarding account management and game ownership issues.
