my issue is that I keep being asked to provide my wife's Hotmail account password so that I can access my account. My wife's password is then declined, despite it being accepted when she directly uses her hotmail account.
the above situation is not what I am experiencing.
I don’t understand this
Thanks for bringing this up. I know it’s frustrating when you can’t sign in to Hotmail, especially if you need urgent access. Don't worry, I am here to help.
First, I need to clarify a few details:
In the meantime, here are the steps you can try.
Step 1. Clear browser cache or try incognito
In Chrome/Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + Del
Clear cached files and cookies
Then retry in incognito (Ctrl + Shift + N)
Step 2. Try another network or device. Because sometimes the error is due to security filters, VPN, or firewall. Disable VPN/security extensions temporarily or try a different network, like a hotspot.
Step 3. You can also check account status at account.microsoft.com and attempt login there. If you see warnings about security info or unusual sign-in activity, follow the prompts.
Step 4. If login still fails, try resetting your password at https://account.live.com/password/reset
