Additional features, settings, or issues not covered by specific Microsoft Teams categories
Migrating chat history from one Microsoft Teams account to another is not directly supported as there is no built-in feature to export and import chat history. However, you can use the Teams data export tool to export your data, which includes chat history, from your old account. Here are the steps you can follow:
- Access the Teams Data Export Tool: You need to be a global administrator to access this tool. You can request access through the Microsoft Form provided by Microsoft.
- Export Data: Once you have access, you can export your data, including 1:1 chats, group chats, meeting chats, and channel messages. The exported data will be in a ZIP file containing JSON files.
- Review Exported Data: After exporting, you can review the data, but note that you cannot import it back into a new Teams account. You will have to manually copy important information from the exported files.
- Manual Copying: Unfortunately, since there is no direct way to import the chat history into the new account, you may need to manually copy critical information from the exported data to your new Teams account.
While this process may not be ideal, it is currently the best option available for migrating chat history between accounts.
