To import files from another computer, you can use several methods depending on your setup and preferences. Here are a few common approaches:

  1. Using an External Drive:
    • Connect an external hard drive or USB flash drive to your old computer.
    • Copy the files you want to transfer onto the external drive.
    • Disconnect the drive and connect it to your new computer.
    • Copy the files from the external drive to your new computer.
  2. Using Cloud Storage:
    • Upload your files from the old computer to a cloud storage service (like OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox).
    • Access the cloud storage from your new computer and download the files.
  3. Using a Network Transfer:
    • If both computers are on the same network, you can share files between them.
    • On the old computer, right-click the folder you want to share, select "Properties," and then go to the "Sharing" tab to set up sharing.
    • Access the shared folder from your new computer through the network.
  4. Using Windows Migration Tools:
    • Windows provides tools like Windows Easy Transfer (for older versions) or PCmover to help transfer files and settings from one computer to another.
    • Follow the instructions provided by these tools to complete the transfer.

Make sure to check if there are any specific settings or configurations needed for your Microsoft setup that could affect file imports.

    Hi Sara,

Another way to bring your files over is by using Windows Backup and Restore or a full system image from your old PC. Here’s how:

    • On your old computer, go to Settings > Update & Security > Backup, then create a backup to an external drive.
    • On your new computer, connect that drive and restore the backup using the same menu.

If both PCs are running Windows 10 or 11, you can also use PCmover (a migration tool) or Windows Easy Transfer alternatives to move files and even apps.

Do you want me to walk you through creating a backup, using PCmover, or setting up network sharing?
