How To Disable Touchpad On Dell Inspiron 14 7000

My laptop is Inspiron 14 1000 with Windows 11. I am using a Logitech M187 mouse. At one point in the past, I disabled the Inspiron touchpad as I was often accidentally touching the pad while typing, causing my cursor to jump around. I used my Logitech M187 for all mouse operations.

Now, my Inspiron touchpad has somehow become enabled and I can't figure out how to disable it. Whenever I go to settings or device manager, I only see controls for the Logitech M187 mouse. Also, there is no function key on the laptop for turning the touchpad on/off.

I have tried all the typical recommendations I see on various web sites and nothing works. Does anyone know how I can disable the touchpad?

    Hello,

If you go to Settings > Bluetooth and devices > Touchpad, do you see the toggle to turn it off?

If the toggle is missing, can you look at the bottom of your laptop, and tell me what the service tag is, it is a combo of numbers and letters. Thanks!

To disable the touchpad on your Dell Inspiron 14 1000 running Windows 11, you can try the following steps:

    1. Settings Method:
      • Go to Settings by pressing Windows + I.
      • Navigate to Devices and then select Touchpad.
      • Look for an option to disable the touchpad. If you see it, toggle it off.
    2. Device Manager Method:
      • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
      • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
      • Look for an entry that corresponds to your touchpad (it may be listed as "Synaptics Touchpad" or similar).
      • Right-click on it and select Disable device.
    3. Using Keyboard Shortcuts:
      • Some laptops have a keyboard shortcut to disable the touchpad. Look for a key with a touchpad icon (often one of the function keys) and press Fn + that key.
    4. Touchpad Software:
      • If your laptop has specific touchpad software (like Synaptics or ELAN), you may find additional settings there. Look for the software in the Control Panel or in the system tray.

If these methods do not work, ensure that your touchpad drivers are updated. You can check for updates in Device Manager under the touchpad device properties.
