Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Dear Asyraf Za'im,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.
Great observation, the difference you noticed is correct. Here’s the clarification:
Microsoft 365 A1 Legacy
This was an older education SKU provided under previous agreements.
It typically included core Microsoft services (Teams, OneDrive, Exchange Online) but did not include Office web apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Online.
It’s no longer offered for new customers and only appears in tenants that were provisioned before Microsoft transitioned to the current A1 model.
Microsoft 365 A1 (Current)
Includes Office web apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint Online), Teams, OneNote, SharePoint Online, and Intune for Education.
Designed for modern education environments and available for new tenants.
How to Get or Check A1 Legacy
You cannot purchase A1 Legacy anymore, it’s retired.
If your organization already has it: Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Billing > Licenses to confirm.
If you need Office web apps, you’ll need to move to the current Microsoft 365 A1 plan or consider A3/A5 for additional features.
I hope this information helps point you in the right direction. If you run into any issues while trying the steps, or if something still doesn’t feel quite right, please don’t hesitate to reach out again. I’ll do my best to support you however I can.
Looking forward to hearing back from you with any updates or additional details.
Warm regards,
