Hello,

I am unable to receive the SMS verification code when trying to redeem Microsoft Rewards.

What I have already tried:

  • My phone number is correct and not a VoIP number
  • I do not use VPN or proxy
  • I tried different browsers and devices
  • I have mobile signal, but sometimes no mobile data
  • I may have requested the code too many times earlier
  • Wi-Fi and mobile data were both tested
  • Still no SMS received at all

Questions:

  1. Is my phone number currently blocked or rate-limited?
  2. If yes, how long do I need to wait before trying again?
  3. Can you reset the limit for my number or account?
  4. Can I use email verification instead of SMS for Rewards redemption?
  5. Is my account restricted in my region (Malaysia)?

Please help me fix this issue and allow me to redeem my points.

Thank you.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. To add to the above, please check and try this on a different browser and even on inPrivate or Incognito mode depending on the browser that you are using and in the event that you will still encounter an issue after checking the above and if it will still be the same later today or tomorrow, you may submit a ticket via https://rewards.bing.com/support for this to get checked internally by the rewards team. Response times may vary due to workload or other tasks at hand, but rest assured that they will review your case and let you know on the outcome.

If you are not receiving the SMS verification code for Microsoft Rewards, here are some insights based on your situation:

  1. Blocked or Rate-Limited: It is possible that your phone number is blocked or rate-limited if you have requested the code too many times in a short period. Microsoft may limit repeated authentication attempts from the same user or organization.
  2. Waiting Period: If you have hit these limits, you may need to wait a few minutes before trying again. Unfortunately, there is no specific time frame provided for how long you should wait before attempting to receive the SMS again.
  3. Resetting Limits: You cannot reset the limit for your number or account directly. If you continue to experience issues, you may need to contact Microsoft support for assistance.
  4. Email Verification: The context does not mention whether email verification is an option for Microsoft Rewards redemption. You may need to check with Microsoft support or the rewards program's help section for alternative verification methods.
  5. Account Restrictions in Malaysia: The context does not provide specific information about account restrictions in Malaysia. If you suspect that your account may be restricted, it would be best to reach out to Microsoft support for clarification.

If you continue to have issues, consider using the Microsoft Authenticator app, which can receive notifications over both cellular and Wi-Fi connections, and can generate codes even without a signal.
