I bought Office with 1TB space and pay more for another TB. I want to download at least 1.5 TB down to a USB or SSD drive both have enough space. How can I do it easily? I have windows 11 and use 365. I work as an e-librarian for both a school and seminary and have literally TBs of materials on USBs SSD, I can't upload everything but the most used materials for students and I can't pull it down safely.

I am afraid of working in registries (never done it) if it takes that. Talk to be like I am recently converted former Luddite. I still prefer card catalogs (ha). Assume I am a complete idiot. but HELP. We are talking about shifting a decade's worth of materials.

Hello! When I migrate local data to OneDrive, I copy the data to Outlook (I don't move it). I copy the smaller folders first, and for the larger folders I try to divide them into stages. This way I avoid synchronization problems. You can do the same to copy data from OneDrive to your local data.

    1. If OneDrive is installed and synchronized on your computer, open OneDrive > View and note the smaller folders > Copy them to your SSD (recommended, as it's faster than a flash drive).
    • Select a folder, or several folders, and press ALT + ENTER > View "Size", and ignore "Size on disk".
    • Size: Size of data that is in the cloud
    • Size on disk: Size of data that is saved locally (HDD, SSD, Flash Drive, etc.)
    1. Click on the Cloud icon > View the synchronization status > Wait for it to fully synchronize.
    2. Next, copy the larger folders and monitor the synchronization status.
    3. When you have copied all the desired folders, select all the folders on your SSD > ALT + ENTER > View and note the Size on Disk, Number of Folders and Files.
    4. Select all the copied folders in OneDrive > ALT + ENTER > View and note the Size, Number of Folders and Files.
    5. Compare the Size and Number of Files and Folders between OneDrive and SSD. If all your files have been copied, you are safe to delete the data on OneDrive to free up space.

I understand you want to free up space and save money. But don't forget to back up your files. Electronic devices are fallible and can burn out.

To download files from OneDrive to your SSD or USB drive, follow these steps:

    1. Open OneDrive: On your Windows 11 computer, open File Explorer and navigate to your OneDrive folder. You can find it in the left sidebar.
    2. Select Files: Browse through your OneDrive files and select the files or folders you want to download. You can hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple items.
    3. Copy Files: Right-click on the selected files or folders and choose Copy from the context menu.
    4. Navigate to Your Drive: Open another File Explorer window and navigate to your SSD or USB drive.
    5. Paste Files: Right-click in the destination folder on your SSD or USB drive and select Paste. This will start transferring the files from OneDrive to your selected drive.
    6. Check Space: Ensure that you have enough space on your SSD or USB drive to accommodate the files you are transferring.

If you want to free up space on OneDrive after downloading, you can delete the files from OneDrive once you have confirmed they are safely stored on your SSD or USB drive. However, make sure you have backups of your important files before deleting anything.

If you encounter any issues with storage limits or need to manage your OneDrive space, you can refer to the guidance on managing storage in OneDrive.

If you wish, you can install the OneDrive folder on an external drive: Install OneDrive on an external drive - Microsoft Support

Just make sure you don't unplug the drive.

Check on how much additional storage you can get: https://onedrive.live.com/?ocid=cmmfqa4dpsq&v=upgrade&hideLeftNav=false
