Trouble logging into Outlook.com ("You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.")

For some weeks now, I am having serious trouble logging into my Outlook.com account. I constantly receive the notification "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password." although I have only tried to log in once. Could you please fix this because I seriously doubt that the problem is on my end (it occurs both in the office and at home). And also, please stop obstructing me from only logging in with my password and forcing me to set up keys, passcodes, fingerprints etc.

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

There is a possibility that a hacker using a bot is repeatedly attempting to sign in to your account, which triggered the system to detect multiple failed sign-in attempts or an unusual login pattern and resulted in the account being temporarily blocked.

If the account is still blocked, please perform these steps to resolve an account block:

    1. Perform a password reset or (request an account recovery if you do not have access to the verification methods) using an InPrivate window or Incognito. Also try using different devices and network services.
    2. Wait 24 hours to perform a password reset/account recovery, but please make sure not to sign in or reset the password within that timeframe, as this may reset the lock cooldown.
    3. If it doesn't work after 24 hours, try waiting exactly 48 hours before resetting the password

You may check this link regarding account blocks for reference: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

Once you have regained access to your account, kindly secure your account by enabling the two-step verification feature and ensure that your verification methods are updated on account.microsoft.com > Security > Manage how I sign in

Also, I highly suggest following the guide from this thread to prevent unauthorized logins: https://learn.microsoft.com/answers/questions/4049625/someone-is-repeatedly-trying-to-access-or-hack-my?forum=windows-all&referrer=answers

Thank you for your understanding! Please feel free to let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

If you are receiving the message "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password," it may be due to several reasons, including account security measures or incorrect login details. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Wait and Try Again: Sometimes, after multiple failed login attempts, the account may be temporarily locked. Wait for a while (usually around 15 minutes) before trying to log in again.
    2. Check Your Credentials: Ensure that you are entering the correct email address and password. If you are unsure, you can try resetting your password.
    3. Account Recovery: If you suspect that your account may be compromised, consider using the account recovery options provided by Microsoft to regain access.
    4. Contact Support: If the issue persists, you may need to contact Microsoft support for further assistance, especially if you believe the problem is not on your end.
    5. Security Settings: Regarding the requirement for additional security measures like keys or fingerprints, these are often enforced for enhanced security. You may want to check your account security settings to see if you can adjust them, but keep in mind that Microsoft may require certain security features for account protection.

Following these steps should help you resolve the login issue with your Outlook.com account.
