I just logged into my computer and into word to retrieve a document and every file that I had on my computer through Word, Excel, etc is gone. Why did this happen and how to I retrieve all of my documents from Windows 10 and below?

Are you synchronizing with OneDrive? In that case, see if you can find your files in OneDrive at https://onedrive.live.com.

To retrieve your old documents saved under Microsoft Word on Windows 10, you can try the following methods:

    1. Check the Recycle Bin: If you accidentally deleted your documents, they might still be in the Recycle Bin. Double-click the Recycle Bin on your Desktop and look for your files.
    2. Search for AutoRecover Files: If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, check the following folder locations for backup files:
      • C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word
      • C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles Replace <UserName> with your actual username.
    3. Recover Unsaved Documents: Open Word, go to File > Info > Manage Document > Recover Unsaved Documents. This will show you any documents that were not saved properly.
    4. Search for Word Backup Files: Word can create backup files with a .wbk extension. You can search for these by entering *.wbk in the Start menu search box.
    5. Use Windows File Recovery Tool: If files were permanently deleted, you can try using the Windows File Recovery tool available from the Microsoft Store to recover them.
    6. Searching for Temporary Files: Temporary files may have a .tmp extension. You can search for these by selecting Start, typing *.tmp, and pressing Enter.

If you still cannot find your documents after trying these methods, it may be worth checking if you have any backups or if they were saved to a cloud service like OneDrive or SharePoint.
