I have an external hard drive that is connected to my internet. I had a laptop with Windows 10 and was able to access the hard drive. I just got a new laptop with Windows 11 and I am not able to acces the hard drive. Can you please tell me what I need to do? Thank you.

    Hi ,

Try enabling SMB 1.0/1.1 and accessing via IP in Windows Explorer to see if it works.

"Enable or disable Windows features" in the search bar > Search for SMB 1.0 in the list and select "OK." Restart the PC and test.

Give feedback if the information was useful or not.

    Thanks

To connect to your WD external hard drive on your new Windows 11 laptop, follow these steps:

    1. Check Network Connection: Ensure that your external hard drive is properly connected to your network and powered on.
    2. Access the Drive: Open File Explorer on your laptop and look for the external hard drive under the "Network" section. If it doesn’t appear, try accessing it by typing the IP address of the drive in the address bar (e.g., \192.168.x.x).
    3. Map the Drive: If you want easier access in the future, you can map the drive:
      • Right-click on the drive in File Explorer and select "Map network drive."
      • Choose a drive letter and ensure the path is correct, then click "Finish."
    4. Check Firewall Settings: Sometimes, firewall settings can block access to network drives. Ensure that your firewall allows access to the drive.
    5. Reconnect to the Network: If you're still having issues, try disconnecting and reconnecting to your network.
    6. Update Drivers: Ensure that your network drivers are up to date. You can check this in Device Manager.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider checking the manufacturer's documentation for specific troubleshooting steps related to your WD external hard drive.
