Try an Office repair. Exit all Office applications and start the repair from Windows Settings, assuming that you have Windows 10 or 11. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b.

With older versions of Windows, go to the Programs & features category in Control Panel, find Office in the list of installed apps, choose to change/modify the install and then continue with a repair.

If Microsoft Office 2016 keeps shutting down every time you start the program, it may be due to various issues. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem:

    1. Repair Office: Go to 'Control Panel' > 'Programs and Features', find Microsoft Office 2016, and select 'Change'. Then choose 'Repair' and follow the prompts.
    2. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Office installation is up to date. You can check for updates within any Office application by going to 'File' > 'Account' > 'Update Options' > 'Update Now'.
    3. Start in Safe Mode: Try starting Office in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. You can do this by holding down the Ctrl key while launching the application. If it works in Safe Mode, there may be an add-in or extension causing the issue.
    4. Disable Add-ins: If Office starts in Safe Mode, disable any add-ins. Go to 'File' > 'Options' > 'Add-ins', and manage your add-ins by selecting 'COM Add-ins' and clicking 'Go'. Uncheck any add-ins and restart the application.
    5. Reinstall Office: If none of the above solutions work, you may need to uninstall and then reinstall Microsoft Office 2016.
    6. Check Windows Compatibility: Ensure that your version of Windows is compatible with Office 2016, as compatibility issues can cause applications to crash.

If the problem continues after trying these steps, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.
