Now outlook does open, but the new outlook, does not. I get following message

We detected a problem launching the new Outlook. Please try again later

So you are seeing the new Outlook instead of the classic Outlook?

Is this on a PC (running Windows)?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Are you using the Outlook (New) in Windows 11/10?
    2. Or the classic Outlook for Microsoft 365 / Office 2019/2021?
    3. And is your account connected to Exchange, or is it just a regular Hotmail/Outlook.com account?

In the meantime, if you are using Outlook New for Windows 11:

    Reset the new Outlook app:

    • Press the Windows key and search for Outlook.
    • Right-click on it and select "App Settings".
    • Scroll down to the Terminate section and click "Terminate".
    • Then scroll down to the Reset section and click "Reset".
    • Wait a moment, then try opening the app again to see if it works.
    • If the issue persists, go back to the same settings, scroll down to the Reset section, and click on "Reset" (confirm the action if prompted).
    • Restart your PC and test.

    Check for Windows updates:

    • Sometimes system updates include fixes for Outlook connectivity issues.
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update, then click Check for updates.

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

If Outlook won't open on your computer, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

    1. Install the Latest Updates: Ensure that your Office installation is up to date. You can check for updates through Windows Update or directly in the Office application.
    2. Check for Conflicting Processes: Make sure that Outlook isn't already running in the background. Sometimes, it may be open but not visible. You can check the Task Manager to see if there are any instances of Outlook running and end those processes.
    3. Repair Office Programs: You can repair your Office installation. To do this, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, find Microsoft Office, right-click it, and select Repair.
    4. Repair Outlook Data Files: If your Outlook data files are corrupted, you can use the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) to fix them. This tool is included with your Office installation.
    5. Create a New User Profile: Sometimes, the user profile in Outlook may become corrupted. You can create a new Outlook profile by going to Control Panel > User Accounts > Mail > Show Profiles, and then adding a new profile.
    6. Check Antivirus Software: Ensure that your antivirus software is up to date and check if it is conflicting with Outlook. You may need to disable any Outlook integration within your antivirus software temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
    7. Perform a Selective Startup: This advanced step involves starting Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs to identify if background programs are interfering with Outlook. You can do this using the System Configuration tool.

Following these steps should help you resolve the issue with Outlook not opening on your computer.
