To get your Brother HL-5250DN printer working with Windows 11, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows 11 is fully updated, as Microsoft may have included drivers for your printer in the latest updates.
    2. Download Drivers from Brother's Website: Visit the Brother support website and search for the HL-5250DN printer. Download the latest drivers compatible with Windows 11. Install the drivers following the provided instructions.
    3. Use Compatibility Mode: If the drivers from Brother's website are not directly compatible with Windows 11, you can try installing them in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows (like Windows 10 or Windows 8). Right-click the driver installation file, select Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and choose an earlier version of Windows.
    4. Add Printer Manually: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners and try to add the printer manually. Select Add a printer or scanner, and if it doesn't find your printer, select The printer that I want isn't listed. Then choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings and follow the prompts.
    5. Use Generic Drivers: If specific drivers are not available, you can try using a generic printer driver. In the Add Printer wizard, select a similar printer model from the list that uses the same emulation (like PCL or PostScript).
    6. Check Printer Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your network or computer, and that it is powered on and not in an error state.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to contact Brother support for further assistance.

    HelloTed,

It sounds like Windows 11 sees your Brother HL-5250DN but can't find the right driver. This often happens with older models since Brother hasn't made a specific Windows 11 driver.

The good news is, it should work with the built-in Brother HL-5250DN series driver or a generic PCL driver. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, then Add device. Choose Add manually and select Brother HL-5250DN or a generic PCL driver from the list.

If that doesn't show up, grab the Windows 10 driver from Brother's site and install it in compatibility mode.

Is your printer using USB or a network?

    Regards,

    Rez
