Game won't launch unless Intel Iris Xe is disabled – performance becomes unusable

Hello, I’m experiencing a consistent issue where game that uses DirectX crashes immediately on launch unless I manually disable Intel Iris Xe Graphics in Device Manager. Once Intel graphics is disabled, the game launches, but performance becomes extremely poor because the system is no longer able to use the NVIDIA GPU correctly.

My system:

  • Windows 11
  • CPU: Intel i7-13700H

iGPU: Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics – Driver 32.0.101.6790 (28/04/2025)

dGPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

  • RAM: 32 GB

DirectX 12 installed

All Windows Updates and GPU drivers installed

Symptoms:

  • Game Where Winds Meet) launches to a white screen and crashes instantly.

The crash stops happening only if I disable Intel Iris Xe Graphics in Device Manager.

  • However, when Iris Xe is disabled, performance becomes extremely low.

Forcing the NVIDIA GPU in Windows Graphics Settings and NVIDIA Control Panel does not fix the issue.

Verifying game files, reinstalling drivers, resetting DirectX, and adjusting virtual memory did not help.

  • This issue appeared suddenly around November 24, 2025, and the game used to work correctly before that date.

Disabling the iGPU makes the game launch but unplayable. I suspect a driver conflict and would appreciate guidance on how to resolve this issue or confirmation if this is a known issue.

Thank you.

    Hii.

I understand, I'm glad you were able to resolve it. I wanted to confirm if your laptop has a Mux switch so you can use only the dual-GPU for performance. Have a good week.

Access the Nvidia control panel > manage 3D settings > Auto select change to High process nvidia.

Give feedback if the information was useful or not.

    Thanks

Contact Intel. There must be a compatibility issue after the update:

It seems like you're experiencing a compatibility issue between the Intel Iris Xe Graphics and the game you're trying to launch. Since the game crashes when the Intel GPU is enabled, it could be related to driver conflicts or specific settings in the game or Windows graphics configuration.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that both the Intel Iris Xe and NVIDIA drivers are up to date. Sometimes, newer drivers can resolve conflicts.
    2. Check Game Settings: Look for any graphics settings within the game that might allow you to select the preferred GPU. Some games have options to choose which graphics card to use.
    3. Windows Graphics Settings: Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics settings. Here, you can set the game to use the NVIDIA GPU explicitly. Make sure to select "High performance" for the game.
    4. Reinstall the Game: Since you've already verified game files, consider a complete reinstall of the game to ensure all files are correctly set up.
    5. Disable Auto HDR: If you have Auto HDR enabled, try disabling it as it can sometimes cause issues with certain games.
    6. Compatibility Mode: Try running the game in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows. Right-click the game executable, go to Properties > Compatibility, and select a previous version.
    7. Contact Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to the game's support team or forums for additional assistance, as they may have specific fixes for this issue.

If none of these solutions work, it may be worth monitoring updates from both Intel and NVIDIA for any patches or fixes that address this specific issue, especially since it started occurring suddenly after a certain date.
