To enable auto-capitalization in Microsoft Office 365 on Windows 11, follow these steps:

    1. Open any Office application (like Word or Excel).
    2. Click on File in the top left corner.
    3. Select Options from the menu.
    4. In the Word Options dialog, click on Proofing.
    5. Click on the AutoCorrect Options button.
    6. In the AutoCorrect dialog, ensure that the following options are checked:
      • Capitalize first letter of sentences
      • Capitalize I (this will ensure that a single letter "I" is automatically capitalized).
    7. Click OK to save your settings and close the dialog.
    8. Click OK again to exit the Options window.

Now, whenever you start a new sentence, it should automatically begin with a capital letter, and typing a single "I" will also be capitalized.

The capitalization issue is driving me nuts. I cannot get capitalization to work either in word or outlook (Office 365). I think I must have tried every option including unchecking and checking options, exiting and restarting the programs, testing whether the keyboard was the issue (it wasn't), quick repair, online repair, reinstallation, restarting the computer etc. NOTHING works!!!! It is beyond infuriating having to hit the shift key all the time if I want things to look ok. It takes me waaay back to before computers became a thing! What the hell? AI answers are not any answers at all, and no-one seems to be able to solve the issue!

Thanks for sharing the details, tom! Try to reset AutoCorrect to Default (many hidden settings can get corrupted)

    Open Word

Go to File → Options → Proofing → AutoCorrect Options

Click Reset (or manually uncheck → OK → reopen → re-check all AutoCorrect items)

Make sure these are enabled again:

    • Capitalize first letter of sentences
    • Capitalize first letter of table cells
    • Capitalize names of days
    • Capitalize "I"

Sometimes the AutoCorrect file normal.acl becomes corrupted. Resetting forces Word to regenerate it.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
