Thanks for sharing the details! Try to identify what type of file it really is (Most Important Step)

Many .TMP files are actually hidden versions of other file types (PDF, DOCX, ZIP, JPEG, etc.). You can often open them by revealing their actual file type:

    Try this:

    • Right-click the .TMP file → Rename
    • Add common file extensions one at a time and try opening them:

    Try these:

    • .pdf
    • .zip
    • .jpg
    • .png
    • .txt
    • .docx (even without Office — LibreOffice can open it)

    Example:

    If the file is named:

    report.tmp

    Rename it to:

    report.pdf

Try to open it. If it fails, rename it again and try .zip or .jpg.

This works surprisingly often because apps create temp files using .tmp even though the content is another file format.

See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly

To open a .TMP file in Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

    1. Locate the .TMP file: Open the folder where your downloaded files are stored, usually the Downloads folder.
    2. Change the file type: In the File Explorer, you may need to change the file type to "All Files" to see the .TMP file.
    3. Open the file: Right-click on the .TMP file and select "Open with". You can choose a text editor like Notepad or any other compatible application that can read the file content. If the file is a temporary file created by an application, it might not be readable without that specific application.

If you encounter issues opening the file, it may be corrupted or not meant to be opened directly. In such cases, consider checking if the application that created the file is available to open it properly.
