A free app and service that helps families create healthy digital habits and stay connected. It’s designed to support both online safety and real-world awareness by offering tools for screen time management, content filtering, and location sharing
Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.
I understand your frustration. You’re not alone, this happens more often than people think.
Because the birth year on your account is set to 2008, Microsoft currently treats your account as a child account. That’s why it’s automatically tied to Microsoft Family Safety, and unfortunately, child accounts can’t remove themselves from a family group on their own. Only the family organizer (adult account) can remove you from the group.
Microsoft also doesn’t allow users to directly edit their date of birth once it’s saved, especially when it affects account age restrictions.
That said, there may still be a way forward. If the date of birth change was made recently, Microsoft Support may be able to help correct it after verifying your identity.
Contact Microsoft support via live chat:
Use another personal Microsoft account (preferably an adult Microsoft account) you currently have access to or one you can create:
- Here is the link: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
- Type this keyword and press Enter: Contact Support.
- At the bottom, click "Sign in to contact support" and sign in with your Personal Microsoft account (Not work or school account) you currently have access, or click "Contact Support" if you're already signed in.
- In Product and services, select "Other Products".
- In Category, select "Billing and Account Profile questions".
- Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".
If you ever find yourself stuck in a loop, please use the keywords "Contact Support" or "Live Chat" (without the quotes) and click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Regards,
John J.D.
