Hi everyone I have an issue with sound on my Dell windows 11 laptop, it was previously windows 10 when i bought it from the store 10 months ago. I recently updated to windows 11 and the sound worked for a few hours, but as i kept on updating the laptop via windows update, it started giving me the sound problem up to a point that even bluetooth sound system no longer work on the pc. You can see that it connected, but the speak does not receive sound signals even the pc speakers and headphones no longer play, sound icon shows an x.

Hello, I am an independent consultant and welcome you to Microsoft Q&A.

I'd be happy to help you with this problem.

Please hover your mouse over the sound icon at the lower right-hand corner, then right-click it and click Troubleshoot Sound. Let the troubleshooter finish its task, then this should either resolve the problem or display an error message.

If that doesn't work, we need to remove the Audio driver from the Device Manager and restart the PC to reinstall it.

Here are the steps to completely remove a Device from your computer.

Step 1. Use shortcut keys Windows key + X.

    Step 2. Select Device Manager.

Step 3. Expand the entry Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Right-click the problematic device, which is either Realtek Audio, or AMD High-definition Audio, or High-Definition Audio, depending on the audio device installed in your PC, and select Uninstall device.

Step 4. You need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device and then click the Uninstall button.

    Step 5. Reboot the computer.

After the reboot, please see if the problem is fixed.

If that still does not work, please visit the support website of your laptop or desktop and then download and install the latest Audio driver then restart the PC.

To troubleshoot the sound issue on your Windows 11 laptop, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Volume Settings: Ensure that your volume is not muted. Click on the sound icon in the taskbar and adjust the volume slider.
    2. Update Audio Drivers: Since you mentioned that the issue started after updating Windows, it might be related to the audio drivers. You can check for updated drivers by going to Settings > Windows Update and selecting Check for updates. Additionally, you can manually update your audio drivers through Device Manager:
      • Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
      • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
      • Right-click on your audio device and select Update driver.
    3. Roll Back Drivers: If the issue started after a specific driver update, you can roll back the driver:
      • In Device Manager, right-click on your audio device, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and click on Roll Back Driver if the option is available.
    4. Run the Audio Troubleshooter: Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can help identify and fix sound issues:
      • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
      • Scroll down and click on Troubleshoot under the Output section.
    5. Check Bluetooth Settings: If Bluetooth devices are not working, ensure that Bluetooth is enabled and that the devices are properly connected. You can also try disconnecting and reconnecting the Bluetooth device.
    6. Reinstall Audio Drivers: If updating doesn't work, you may need to uninstall the audio drivers and then restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the drivers:
      • In Device Manager, right-click on your audio device and select Uninstall device. Restart your computer afterward.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to contact Dell support for further assistance, especially if the laptop is still under warranty.
