Do the following to remove Shading: Select the text and press Ctrl+Q (removes paragraph Shading) followed by Ctrl+SpaceBar (removes text Shading). Note that this will remove other text formatting overrides as well.

Alternatively, use the Borders and Shading dialog box. Select the text. Click the arrow on the Border button in the Paragraph group on the Home tab, and choose Borders and Shading. In the dialog box, go to the Shading tab. For a selection, Apply to is usually set to "Text" but you may have to change this to "Paragraph." In the Fill drop down, choose "No Color." Confirm with OK.

Note that if Text Highlight Color User's image (and not Shading) has been used, remove the highlight via that button instead.

To delete a background color behind text in Microsoft Word, you can follow these steps:

    1. Select the Text: Highlight the text from which you want to remove the background color.
    2. Go to the Home Tab: Click on the "Home" tab in the ribbon at the top of the window.
    3. Text Highlight Color: In the "Font" group, look for the "Text Highlight Color" button (it looks like a marker). Click on the drop-down arrow next to it.
    4. No Color: Select "No Color" from the options. This will remove any background color applied to the selected text.

Alternatively, if the background color is set through paragraph shading:

    1. Select the Paragraph: Click anywhere in the paragraph that has the background color.
    2. Shading Options: In the "Paragraph" group on the "Home" tab, click on the "Shading" button (it looks like a paint bucket).
    3. No Fill: Choose "No Fill" to remove the background color.

These steps should help you effectively remove the background color behind your text in Microsoft Word.
