Please follow these steps using your keyboard.

Step 1: Scan for hardware changes

This sometimes brings the touchpad back.

    In Device Manager, press Alt

Use the Right Arrow to select Action

Press Down Arrow → Scan for hardware changes

    Press Enter

    Wait 30 seconds

If Mice and other pointing devices appear → restart the laptop.

    Step 2: Check “Other devices”

Use the Arrow keys to go to Other devices

Press the Right Arrow to expand it

Let me know what you see.

    Please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Reinstall the I2C HID Device

This often forces Windows to bind the correct driver.

    In Human Interface Devices

Use arrow keys to highlight I2C HID Device

    Press Shift + F10

    Select Uninstall device

    Press Enter

If asked, do NOT check “Delete the driver.”

    Restart the laptop

After reboot, check if Mice and other pointing devices appear.

Step 2: Install the missing Intel Serial IO driver (CRITICAL)

Without this, the touchpad will never work.

Go to your laptop manufacturer’s support website

    Download and install:

    Intel Serial IO driver

    Chipset driver

    Restart after each install

Step 3: Install the correct Touchpad driver

Depending on your laptop, it will be one of these:

    Synaptics Touchpad

    ELAN Touchpad

    Precision Touchpad

Install it after Serial IO and Chipset.

    Step 4: Final check

    After reboot:

    Device Manager should show:

    Mice and other pointing devices

    HID-compliant mouse or Precision Touchpad

    Touchpad settings should appear in:

    Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad

Hi, I'm an independent consultant. Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

I will be happy to help you with this problem.

I understand your mouse and touchpad do not work, and they are missing in the Device Manager.

Have you tried a hard reset?

To do it, turn off the laptop, then press and hold the power button for about 10–15 seconds until it fully shuts down. If the battery is removable, take it out along with the charger, hold the power button to drain any leftover power, then put the battery back. For laptops without a removable battery, just disconnect the charger and hold the power button to drain the power. After a few seconds, reconnect the charger and turn the laptop back on. This simple reset often clears minor system glitches.

To resolve issues with your touchpad and mouse not working on your laptop, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager and look for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark, which indicates a driver issue. You may need to update or reinstall the drivers for your touchpad and mouse.
    2. Install Drivers: If the drivers are missing, you can download the appropriate drivers from the manufacturer's website or use the Windows Update feature to search for the latest drivers.
    3. Check for Windows Updates: Ensure your Windows operating system is fully updated, as updates can include important driver updates.
    4. Disable New DMA Devices: If your devices are blocked before logging in, configure the Disable new DMA devices when this computer is locked setting to Not Configured. This may help in recognizing the devices properly after a logon.
    5. Use Troubleshooters: Utilize the built-in Windows troubleshooters for hardware and devices. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and run the relevant troubleshooters.
    6. Check Hardware Connections: If you are using an external mouse, ensure it is properly connected. For built-in touchpads, ensure there are no physical obstructions or hardware issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to consult further resources or consider hardware repairs.
