Press and hold the Ctrl key on your keyboard while you open Word, Word will open in Safe Mode, is Word working correctly using that method?

If not, the best first option is to to perform a full repair of your Office installation.

Open the Settings App (gear icon on your Start Menu)

Go to Apps, then scroll down to find Microsoft Office

Select that and choose Modify - Online Repair

That should fix any issues with your Office Installation.

If that does not resolve the problem, completely uninstall Office from your PC, restart the PC, then download and reinstall Office from your Microsoft account on this link.

If you're encountering an error when trying to open Microsoft Word, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that both Windows and Microsoft Office are up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs that cause applications to malfunction.
    2. Test Other Documents: Try opening different Word documents to see if the issue is with a specific file or with Word itself. If other documents open without issue, the problem may be with the specific document.
    3. Open in Safe Mode: You can try starting Word in Safe Mode. To do this, press Windows + R, type winword /safe, and press Enter. If Word opens successfully, the issue may be related to add-ins or settings.
    4. Repair Office: You can repair your Office installation. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select Microsoft Office, and then choose the Repair option.
    5. Check for Conflicting Software: Sometimes, other software can interfere with Word. Check if any recently installed programs might be causing the issue.
    6. Clear Temporary Files: Running out of disk space can also cause issues. Use the Disk Cleanup tool to clear temporary files and free up space.
    7. Check Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to access the Word application and its files.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to consider reinstalling Microsoft Office or seeking further assistance from Microsoft support.
