Additional Microsoft Defender tools and services that provide security across various platforms and environments
That message is normal and legitimate. It appears when the built-in Windows PowerShell starts and is simply Microsoft telling you that there is a newer version available. The link points to the official Microsoft site for downloading the newer “PowerShell” (PowerShell 7+), which is separate from the older Windows PowerShell that still ships with Windows 11.
You do not have to download anything for your system to work properly. Windows 11 already includes Windows PowerShell, and it will continue to function as it always has. The newer PowerShell is mainly aimed at developers, IT administrators, and advanced users who want extra features and cross-platform support. For everyday home use, there is no requirement to install it.
Downloading the newer PowerShell will not make your computer faster. It is just a command-line tool, not a performance optimizer. If your PC is running slow, the cause is usually background programs, startup apps, low disk space, updates running, or hardware limits, not the version of PowerShell you have installed.
Installing it would generally not harm your system if you get it from Microsoft, but it also won’t help with slowness. If you do not use command-line tools or scripts, you can safely ignore the message and close the window.
