Why have I lost the ability to open or print DOCx files on OneDrive?

I am a Microsoft 365 basic subscriber and, until a few weeks ago, I was able to open and print DOCx files saved in OneDrive Documents. I don't know why or how, but I have now lost that facility.

I have been reliably informed that I can solve the problem by downloading the free Microsoft Word online app (which gives limited access to Word and is presumably available to my subscription level) by signing in to Microsoft 365. Every time I attempt this it fails.

Can anyone help? ....... answers in simple, plain English please as I am an aged technophile.

Printing from the web version of Word (press Ctrl+P) would convert the document into a PDF version. You should be able to complete printing the PDF, though.

Do you see an error message when trying to print, or what happens?

The page should show M365 Copilot, and the apps will show on the left of the screen.

If the page turns black after opening it, I recommend you clear the browser cache (If you use Microsoft Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear > Check the options "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached image and files")
and check for extensions that may affect the page.

Hi, I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.
What happens now when you try to open your .docx documents?
Your Microsoft 365 Basic subscription does not have access to the apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), so you will only be able to use it if you had another license for these apps.

You can access the online version of the Microsoft 365 Apps at https://m365.cloud.microsoft/, but you said it fails when you attempt to enter your account, do you see any error accessing it?

If you're having trouble opening or printing DOCx files from OneDrive, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot:

    1. Check Your Internet Connection: Ensure that you have a stable internet connection, as OneDrive requires it to access files.
    2. Use Office Online: Since you mentioned trying to download the Microsoft Word online app, you can use Office Online directly in your web browser. This allows you to open and edit DOCx files without needing to download anything. Just sign in to your Microsoft 365 account and navigate to OneDrive to access your documents.
    3. Clear Your Browser Cache: Sometimes, clearing your browser's cache can resolve issues with loading web applications. Try this and then attempt to open your DOCx files again.
    4. Check for Updates: Ensure that your browser and any Office applications are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause compatibility issues.
    5. Try a Different Browser: If you're still having trouble, try accessing OneDrive and your documents using a different web browser to see if the issue persists.
    6. Check File Permissions: Make sure that you have the necessary permissions to open and print the files. If the files were shared with you, the owner may have changed the sharing settings.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.
