I have enabled the power settings, battery performance, and NVIDIA automatic GPU switching, but the issue still persists.Additionally, in some games, NVIDIA game optimization and Steam background recording do not work properly. What should I do to fix this issue? My laptop specifications: • MSI Cyborg 15 A12V • Windows 11 64-bit • Intel Core i7-12650H • 16 GB RAM • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU

    Hello MUNKHTUR ENKHUCHRAL,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. I'm happy to help.

I see that you are having FPS drop issue while playing game. May I know if you have tried the AI assistant suggestion yet? Before we proceed, I'd like to confirm a few things. You said that suddenly the game drop to 0 FPS, which is equal to a screen freeze. Normally, a drop of FPS could take your FPS to one digit, but not 0. I suspect that there might be something that stop working at the time of the freeze. In this case, can you please check the event viewer to see if there are any events that trigger when this happens?

    I'm waiting for your reply.

To address the issue of massive FPS drops on your laptop, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Update Drivers: Ensure that your NVIDIA graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this through the NVIDIA GeForce Experience application or by visiting the NVIDIA website.
    2. Check Power Settings: Since you've enabled power settings, ensure that your laptop is set to "Best Performance" mode in the Windows power options. You can adjust this by going to Settings > System > Power & battery and selecting the appropriate power mode.
    3. Disable Background Applications: Close unnecessary background applications that may be consuming resources. This includes applications like Steam, which may interfere with game performance.
    4. Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and ensure that the preferred graphics processor is set to the NVIDIA GPU for your games. You can do this by navigating to Manage 3D settings and adjusting the settings for each game.
    5. Game Optimization: If NVIDIA game optimization isn't working, try manually adjusting the in-game settings for graphics quality and resolution to find a balance that maintains performance.
    6. Check for Thermal Throttling: Monitor the temperatures of your CPU and GPU while gaming. If they are overheating, it may cause throttling, which can lead to FPS drops. Ensure that your laptop is well-ventilated and consider cleaning the fans if necessary.
    7. Reinstall Games: If specific games are still having issues, consider reinstalling them to ensure that all files are intact and properly configured.
    8. Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows is fully updated, as updates can include performance improvements and bug fixes.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, it may be beneficial to consult with MSI support or check forums for similar issues with your specific laptop model.
