I successfully set up a printer/scanner in the microsoft app SCAN, however I have a second printer/scanner that I use. How can I add this second printer/scanner to the app so that I can then select which to use for a particular scan?

I tried the AI response. My second printer/scanner is set up. I can print from it but it still does not show up in the SCAN app.

    Hi ced2,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A regarding the issue with setting up your second scanner to appear in the Windows Scan app.

To help me assist you better, could you let me know which troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried so far?

In the meantime, please try the following steps to help Windows detect your second scanner:

Step 1: Remove and Re-add the Device

-Go to Settings > Printers & scanners.

-Remove the second device, then re-add it using “Add a printer or scanner.”

This can prompt Windows to re-register the scanner portion of the device.

    Step 2: Confirm Scanner Functionality

Make sure the second device has scanning capabilities and that its drivers are fully installed. Try scanning with other apps to confirm it works outside the Windows Scan app:

    • Windows Fax and Scan: Search for it in Start, click “New Scan,” and check if your second scanner appears in the dropdown.
    • Manufacturer’s Scanning Software: Brands like HP, Canon, Epson, and Brother often offer their own apps with better device detection and control.

Step 3: Reinstall or Update Drivers

-Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.

-Select your second device, click “Manage,” then “Scanner Properties” (if available). If scanning options aren’t listed, download the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website, preferably the full software suite, not just the basic driver.

You can share with me your scanner model and Windows version. I’ll help you find the most compatible driver and related scanning software from the manufacturer or Microsoft Store.

Step 4: Test the Scanner on Another Computer

If the scanner works normally but doesn’t show up in the Windows Scan app, try connecting it to a different Windows device to see if it helps:

    • Install the full driver/software package from the manufacturer
    • Open the Windows Scan app and check if the scanner appears
    • Also test with Windows Fax and Scan and the manufacturer’s app

This helps determine whether the issue lies with the scanner itself or the original computer’s configuration.

Please let me know what you've tried so far, and I’ll be happy to guide you further.

Thank you for responding and RESOLVING my problem.

I did "Step 1" - In settings, I removed the device and re-added it.

Then I checked the Scan App and it DID RECOGNIZE the second scanner. I am now able to scan from either device with the Scan App.

    Thanks again.
