    Hello Zweli Khumalo

This error occurs because Azure Metered Billing is supported only for specific Azure subscription types. If the subscription is Azure Sponsorship, Azure for Students, Free Trial, or disabled/canceled, Azure intentionally rejects the request and returns “Subscription does not exist”, even though the subscription is visible in the portal.

    Supported subscription types:

    • Pay‑As‑You‑Go
    • Enterprise Agreement (EA)

    Not supported:

    • Azure Sponsorship
    • Azure for Students
    • Free Trial
    • Dev/Test
    • Canceled or Disabled subscriptions

Metered billing requires an active Pay‑As‑You‑Go or Enterprise Agreement subscription.

    Thanks,

    Suchitra.

To select an Azure subscription, you must have owner permissions to the subscription.

    Additional Supported subscription types:

    • MSDN (available to choose for now) [MS-AZR-0029P]

    Confirmed Not supported:

    • Azure Sponsorship (not available) [MS-AZR-0036P]

If you are unable to add metered billing to Azure and receiving a message that the subscription does not exist, it could be due to a few reasons:

    1. Incorrect Directory: Ensure that you are signed in to the correct Azure directory. You can switch directories by selecting your account at the top right of the Azure portal and choosing the correct directory from the list.
    2. Permissions: You need to have the appropriate permissions to create or manage subscriptions. Make sure your account has at least the Contributor role within the subscription or resource group.
    3. No Active Subscription: If there are no subscriptions associated with your account, you will need to create one first. You can add a subscription by navigating to the Azure portal and following the steps to create a new subscription.

If you continue to experience issues, consider checking the Azure documentation for troubleshooting subscription problems or creating a support request for further assistance.
