🔧 Laptop Freezing, SSD 100% Usage & Random Restart Issue (New Laptop)

Device Information

Laptop Model: ASUS Vivobook 15 (AMD Ryzen series)

Processor: AMD Ryzen (integrated Radeon Graphics)

RAM: 16 GB (8 GB onboard + 8 GB DDR4 SO-DIMM)

Storage: 512 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD

SSD Model: Micron 2400 NVMe

Operating System: Windows 11 (fresh install)

Laptop Status: Brand new

Problem Description

I am facing serious performance and stability issues on my brand new ASUS Vivobook laptop, even during very light usage or immediately after boot.

Issues Observed

Very Slow Boot & Initial Freeze

Laptop takes 1–2 minutes to boot.

After reaching the desktop, the system **freezes for another 2–3 minutes**.

During this time, mouse clicks and keyboard input do not respond.

After a few minutes, the system becomes responsive again.

        **Random Freezing During Normal Use**

Apps fail to open and show **“Not Responding”**.

Sometimes the entire system freezes for **3–5 minutes**.

No heavy applications are running at that time.

                 **SSD Showing 100% Active Time**

                    In Task Manager → Performance:

**Disk (NVMe SSD) shows 100% Active Time**

                                **Read speed = 0 KB/s**

                                      **Write speed = 0 KB/s**

CPU, RAM, and GPU usage remain very low.

This happens even when no applications are open.

                                            **Application Crashes (AutoCAD)**

AutoCAD appears on the screen but does not fully open.

                                                  System becomes frozen.

After some time, AutoCAD shows **“FATAL ERROR”** and crashes.

Autodesk Identity Manager also crashes unexpectedly.

                                                        **Sleep Mode Issue**

When I put the laptop into **Sleep mode** and try to wake it after **5–8 minutes**:

The laptop **freezes instead of waking instantly**.

                                                                       Screen remains unresponsive.

Then the **ASUS logo appears**, and the system performs a **fresh boot**, as if it restarted.

                                                                                   This happens consistently.

                                                                                   **Unexpected Restarts**

Occasionally, the laptop **restarts automatically** without warning.

Additional Notes

SSD health check using wmic diskdrive get status shows OK.

All startup applications are disabled.

Laptop fan runs normally, and hot air comes out during freezes.

System is not overheating.

No third-party antivirus installed.

Summary

This is a brand new laptop, but it shows:

Severe freezing

NVMe SSD stuck at 100% active time with zero read/write

Application crashes

Sleep mode failures

Random restarts

This strongly appears to be a NVMe SSD firmware / driver / Windows 11 compatibility issue, especially involving the Micron 2400 NVMe SSD on an AMD Ryzen platform.

Request

I would like guidance or an official fix regarding:

NVMe SSD firmware update

Compatible storage driver

BIOS update or configuration

Known issues with Micron 2400 NVMe + Windows 11 on ASUS Vivobook

    Hi,

100 % load with zero bytes read-write speed means hardware problem. Please check your laptop in ASUS service center.

To address the issues you're experiencing with your ASUS Vivobook, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Check for Firmware and Driver Updates:
      • Ensure that your NVMe SSD firmware is up to date. Visit the manufacturer's website (Micron) to check for any firmware updates for the Micron 2400 NVMe SSD.
      • Update your storage drivers. You can check for the latest drivers in Device Manager or download them directly from the ASUS support website for your model.
    2. BIOS Update:
      • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your ASUS Vivobook. An updated BIOS can improve compatibility and performance with new hardware.
      • Visit the ASUS support page for your laptop model to find the latest BIOS version and instructions on how to update it.
    3. Windows Updates:
      • Make sure that your Windows 11 installation is fully updated. Sometimes, Microsoft releases updates that improve system stability and compatibility with hardware.
      • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
    4. Check Power Settings:
      • Adjust your power settings to ensure that your laptop is not entering power-saving modes that could affect performance. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select a high-performance plan.
    5. Run System Diagnostics:
      • Use built-in tools like the Windows Performance Monitor to analyze system performance and identify any bottlenecks.
      • You can also run the System File Checker tool by executing sfc /scannow in the Command Prompt to check for and repair any corrupted system files.
    6. Safe Mode:
      • Boot your laptop in Safe Mode to see if the issues persist. If the laptop runs smoothly in Safe Mode, it may indicate a problem with third-party software or drivers.
    7. Check for Background Processes:
      • Use Task Manager to check if any background processes are consuming resources excessively. Disable unnecessary startup applications to improve boot time and responsiveness.

If these steps do not resolve the issues, consider reaching out to ASUS support for further assistance, as they may have specific solutions for your model regarding compatibility with Windows 11 and the Micron SSD.
