Xbox Parental Settings Loopholes

Context: On the Xbox settings, there is a way to block Microsoft edge access in account sign in settings, and the console in family settings for gaming systems. You can also block inappropriate content on the account level (in the content restrictions option in the account) and also on the console level (in the family settings).

Issue: These settings are completely bypassed if the user downloads another web browser such as "www web browser", "webbrowser", "internet browser", "leo web browser". "Shiba Internet Browser".

All of these can be downloaded, opened, and access ANY content, no matter the settings structure you make unless you block all downloading of apps. I feel this prevents any intentional design of the settings in place to create safe experiences. I understand their are ways to make child accounts, but these settings need to be updated for non child accounts as well. Can this be addressed?

In addition, I have seen the setting under "system Access Restrictions" to prevent Edge Web Browser be reset after the console updates. This has happened multiple times to multiple consoles I own upon updating. This creates distrust in the security of the settings and once again prevents any intentional design to keep users safe from inappropriate content. How can this be addressed?

The concerns you've raised about Xbox parental settings and the ability to bypass restrictions by downloading alternative web browsers are valid. Currently, Microsoft Edge is the only supported browser that provides web filtering functionality within Microsoft Family Safety. This means that while parents can set restrictions on Edge, other browsers can be downloaded and used without those same restrictions, which can indeed create loopholes in parental controls.

To address the issue of bypassing restrictions through alternative browsers, it would be beneficial for Microsoft to enhance the parental control features to include stricter controls over app downloads and the ability to block all browsers not approved by the family organizer. This could help ensure that children cannot access inappropriate content through alternative means.

Regarding the resetting of settings under "system Access Restrictions" after console updates, this is a known issue that can undermine trust in the security of the settings. Regular updates should ideally preserve user settings, and any changes that reset parental controls should be addressed by Microsoft to ensure consistent protection for users.

For these issues to be effectively addressed, feedback to Microsoft through their support channels may be necessary, as they can consider these concerns for future updates to their systems and parental control features.
