Hi @Andrew,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand that you are experiencing unexpected color banding in applications with gradients, despite having a 10-bit capable display and the correct settings enabled in both Windows 11 and your NVIDIA Control Panel.
It appears that while the hardware is reporting a 10-bit signal, the software-level color processing may not be aligning perfectly with the display's output capabilities. This behavior is often related to how Windows manages color profiles or how the GPU prioritizes high-bandwidth signals.
To address this, please follow the troubleshooting steps outlined below:
1. Adjust Auto Color Management (ACM)
Windows 11 introduced a feature called "Auto Color Management" to help apps provide accurate colors. In some configurations, this can impact how gradients are rendered.
- Go to
Settings > System > Display > Advanced display. - Select your 10-bit monitor.
- Locate the option Automatically manage color for apps and toggle it Off. If it is already off, try toggling it On to see if the rendering pipeline refreshes.
2. Verify NVIDIA Dynamic Range
The GPU might be defaulting to a "Limited" output range, which reduces the number of available color steps.
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Navigate to Display > Change resolution.
- Under "Apply the following settings," ensure Output dynamic range is set to Full.
- Verify that Output color depth is strictly set to 10 bpc and Output color format is RGB.
3. Clear Existing ICC Profiles
If an older or incompatible color profile is active, it may be forcing an 8-bit color curve onto your 10-bit output.
- Search for Color Management in the Start menu and open it.
- Select your display from the dropdown.
- Check Use my settings for this device.
- If any profiles are listed, please Remove them to allow Windows to use the hardware default.
For a deeper look into how Windows 11 handles advanced color and the requirements for high-bit-depth displays, please refer to this official documentation: Change display brightness and color in Windows
Please try these adjustments and let me know the outcome. If the banding persists, I would be happy to investigate further.
