Unable to Edit Paragraphs from Previous Sessions on MS Word (Web)

When attempting to edit a paragraph created in a previous session on MS Word (using MS Edge), I encounter the following issues:

  • Clicking on the text places the cursor only at the last word of the paragraph, preventing me from making edits.
  • In some cases, the entire paragraph disappears as soon as I click on it, and only reappears after I click elsewhere.

Is there a way to resolve this behaviour so that I can reliably edit paragraphs from earlier sessions? I have attempted to restart the PC and refresh the site.

Turns out the issue was just my zoom level — once I reset it back to 100%, the paragraphs became editable again.

Hi Logan Hoyle, I completely understand how frustrating that must have been something as simple as editing text shouldn’t turn into a mystery.

Reset your browser zoom back to 100% Word Online editing can break at custom zoom levels causing cursor glitches and disappearing paragraphs.

When you reset the zoom to 100% did the issue disappear immediately or do you still notice any lag or disappearing text when clicking paragraphs?

The issues you're experiencing with editing paragraphs in Microsoft Word for the web may be related to a few factors. Here are some suggestions to help resolve the behavior:

    1. Browser Compatibility: Ensure that you are using a supported browser and that it is up to date. Sometimes, browser issues can cause unexpected behavior in web applications.
    2. Clear Cache: Clearing your browser's cache can help resolve issues related to loading and editing documents.
    3. Network Stability: If your internet connection is unstable, it may affect how edits are processed. Ensure you have a reliable connection while working on your document.
    4. Document State: Check the save status in the bottom status bar of Word for the web. If it reads Saving... or Working..., your edits may not be fully processed. Wait until it shows Saved before attempting to edit again.
    5. Refresh the Page: If the paragraph disappears or behaves unexpectedly, try refreshing the page. This can sometimes reset the document state and resolve temporary glitches.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
